Sanofi Consumer Healthcare, which manufacturers the over-the-counter drug Xyzal Allergy 24HR, is aiming to encourage allergy sufferers to “Wise Up, Rise Up” when it comes to their allergy symptoms.
The company is partnering with Dr. Neeta Ogden, an allergist, to help those suffering from allergies to understand the importance of managing their symptoms, according to a Sanofi press release.
The company conducted a social experiment made up of 80 allergy sufferers and 80 non-sufferers who tracked their sleep and physical activity through a wearable device for 30 days. Participants also filled out a daily survey about their symptoms. Results concluded that allergy symptoms can affect a variety of areas of sufferers' lives, including sleep quality and day-to-day activities such as exercise, according to the release. Participants with allergies also took longer to fall asleep, struggled to stay asleep and exercised less than non-allergy sufferers.
"Many allergy sufferers have gotten so used to their symptoms that they don't even realize how significantly they may be impacting their day-to-day lives, including everything from their sleep at night to their productivity during the day,” Ogden said in the release. “But the results of this social experiment should serve as a wake-up call. If your allergy symptoms aren't under control, it's time to educate yourself about both your triggers and your treatment options, so you can find relief that doesn't rest and enjoy the spring season."
