Takeda takes top spot for LGBT-friendly workplace

Exemplifying criteria for non-discrimination, benefits coverage and overall diversity awareness for LGBT employees, Takeda Pharmaceuticals recently took the top spot in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2017 Corporate Equality Index.

The Deerfield, Illinois-based Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A. Inc. practices inclusiveness, provides training and features a “Take Pride” resource group for its employees. It also goes a step further in providing a healthy workplace environment for LGBT individuals through corporate sponsorship of organizations that support the diverse community.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation awarded the company a perfect score for its efforts, placing it squarely among only a few hundred firms to achieve the benchmark. HRC introduced its Corporate Equality Index in 2002 specifically to create equality for LGBT workers.

“We’re delighted to have received this perfect rating from the HRC,” Laurene Giagnorio, Takeda Pharmaceuticals’ senior vice president for human resources and administration, said. “Maintaining an inclusive culture … is a high priority and key to our success.”

The firm specializes in oncology, gastroenterology and central nervous system areas as well as cardiovascular disease and vaccines.

“Providing everything from flexible work paths to employee resource groups demonstrates our deep respect for everyone on our team, which is acknowledged by this and the many other workplace awards Takeda is honored to have received,” Giagnorio said. “Takeda’s award-winning workplace ensures we attract and retain the finest talent to create innovative solutions for our patients.”
