New health care coalition launches in D.C.

Sponsored by the Healthcare Leadership Council, the brand-new Healthcare Leaders for Accountable Innovation in Medicare debuted Thursday with an event at the Reserve Officers Association in Washington, D.C.

The new consortium includes entities across the health care and patient advocacy sectors specifically committed to improving the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). Participants hope to craft CMMI into a “more effective incubator for new ideas and an interactive, transparent partner with stakeholder organizations,” according to officials.

Several health care experts participated as speakers on CMMI issues: Dan Crippen, former director of the Congressional Budget Office and executive director of the National Governors Association; Danielle Lloyd, vice president of policy and advocacy for Premier, a health care alliance dually based in Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, North Carolina; and Dr. Tom Valuck, partner at Baltimore-based Discern Health and former senior vice president for strategic partnerships at the National Quality Forum.

The Washington, D.C.-based Healthcare Leadership Council is a league of chief executives from all American health care disciplines. It serves as a forum for U.S. health care leaders to cooperatively develop ways to make affordable, high-quality care accessible to all Americans.
