Health leaders work to repeal Independent Payment Advisory Board

The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) is working to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), which the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) first started in 2010.

IPAB is a board that President Barack Obama has developed and authorized to give recommendations that would cut Medicare spending when Medicare’s growth meets specific arbitrary levels.

During the last few years, many people have worked to repeal the board. As such, there has been notable success in gaining support to repeal the co-sponsorship of IPAB hearings, pieces of legislation, votes, media, tele-town halls and other big group sign-on letter work.

Urgency to act is imperative because the new Medicare trustees report is estimated to give IPAB freedom to act and cut Medicare expenses that even Congress would find hard to overturn.

HLC is worried that IPAB will negatively affect the U.S. if it is triggered. To have full impact, HLC hopes to gain more signers on its letter, which already has more than 530 signatures. Interested parties are encouraged to add their organizations to this letter, which will be sent to Congress.
