The Spectrum Careers portal provides opportunities for people with autism

Nish Parikh, social entrepreneur, technology architect and CEO of WebTeam Corporation, has partnered with Autism Speaks to create TheSpectrumCareers.com, a career portal for people with autism.

Parikh develops new ways for students with special needs to build the lives they want. He has created Rangam Consultants Inc., parent firm of WebTeam, to be a staffing company dedicated to human resources support for Fortune 500 companies in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and India.

Approximately 50,000 young adults are on the autism spectrum, who will soon make the difficult transition from school age to adulthood. This means they will leave the safety of the classroom and start their lives in the workforce. As such, these young adults need advice for career coaches and professional services -- not just to survive at work, but to succeed.

Recently, a person with autism joined a large pharmaceutical company. He is now a packaging technician thanks to his video resume that he added to the portal.

In addition, two people on the portal were hired by a worldwide media conglomerate to provide quality control services. The move represents part of the company’s diversity expansion initiative.

Parikh and his team hope to continue their good work through The Spectrum Careers.
