AHA holds health tech meeting to encourage innovation

The American Heart Association (AHA) recently held its first Health Tech and Innovation Forum to encourage inventors to develop new methods of using technology for health concerns.

The AHA has established its new Center for Health Technology & Innovation (CHTI), which organized the forum. The goal is to unite technology leaders and clinical experts to encourage technologies and health care solutions that could decrease costs, increase outcomes and raise health engagement for families and patients.

"The American Heart Association recognizes the critical importance of connecting individual consumers and patients with health care providers," Nancy Brown, CEO of the AHA, said. "We believe that by developing new solutions, whether to improve the delivery of care or to help individuals manage their own health, we can have a tremendous impact on health outcomes."

The meeting’s participants included leaders in technology, medicine, research, industry and investment. Their main topics of discussion were health care research, technology and application.

"Collaboration is essential to delivering health technology innovations that can make a meaningful difference in patients' lives,” Brown said. "Combining our foundation of scientific knowledge with the technology and data management expertise of our partners is the most efficient pathway to achieving progress."
