Lucian Leape Institute celebrates Medtronic grant

The National Patient Safety Foundation’s (NPSF) Lucian Leape Institute, think tank for the NPSF, recently received a $1 million contribution from Medtronic, a worldwide leader in medical services, technology and solutions.

Over the next three years, the grant will allow the institute to continue leading the health care field in creating strategies that make lasting improvements to patient safety.

"The NPSF Lucian Leape Institute is composed of the most distinguished leaders in the patient safety field," Steve Blazejewski, president of the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group at Medtronic, said. "We are pleased to help enhance the Institute's work to improve patient care and safety and support the role of the health care workforce in delivering the safest care."

This marks the first time that the institute has received unrestricted funding.

"We are extremely pleased that Medtronic has chosen to so generously support the institute's work," Dr. Tejal Gandhi, president and CEO of NPSF, said. "This grant will be enormously helpful in ensuring that the Institute can continue its mission of providing the strategic vision for improving patient safety."

The grant was announced at the Ninth Annual NPSF Lucian Leape Institute Forum and Keynote Dinner in Boston on Sept. 15.
