Cure Alzheimer’s Fund invests over $6 million in research

Leaders with the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, a nonprofit organization, recently decided to invest over $6 million in research for 2016 alone, funding scientists to further understand Alzheimer’s and create effective therapies.

Since the start of this year, the group has financed a total of 29 projects throughout the U.S. and across the globe. The organization has stated that it plans to award even more grants as the year continues.

"Every year, we see more exciting scientific breakthroughs in the fight to develop effective treatments to Alzheimer's disease," Tim Armour, president and CEO of Cure Alzheimer's Fund, said. "Cure Alzheimer's Fund is pleased to provide critical early-stage funding to some of the most promising research projects that help us comprehend and treat this destructive disease."

Throughout 2016, the fund has financed Alzheimer’s disease research on a rolling basis. Two years ago, the organizations invested $5.4 million in research.

"Researchers around the world are making important contributions to our understanding of Alzheimer's disease and the ways we can effectively treat it," Dr. Rudy Tanzi, chair of Cure Alzheimer's Fund's Research Consortium, said. "Cure Alzheimer's Fund has been a significant part of those efforts because the organization's early funding has allowed scientists to further develop their research projects and their understanding of how we might treat this disease."
