Parkinson’s Disease Foundation releases latest online seminars

Leaders with the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF), part of the Parkinson’s Foundation, recently announced the eighth part of its PD ExpertBriefings series about unmet needs in Parkinson’s education.

There are six free online seminars addressing this topic, featuring presentations by leaders and experts in research and care for Parkinson’s. The eighth presentation began on Sept. 13.

"As part of our strategy to end Parkinson's disease, PDF mobilizes the members of our team — in the research, health and patient communities — to work together," Robin Elliott, CEO of the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, said. "That teamwork is the foundation for the success of this educational series. The seminars are led by one group of experts in the field — the researchers and health professionals who bring their expertise to bear on coping with the disease. And they are guided by another — the people with Parkinson's and care partners who have ensured that PDF addresses the topics that matter most."

People who have Parkinson’s disease typically have many questions about how to live with the disease. Over 1,000 survey respondents helped the PDF organize and plan the annual educational needs survey. Providing this education could significantly improve patients' lives.

"As a person with Parkinson's who has lived in several rural communities, I know that finding timely and accurate information on Parkinson's can be a challenge," A.C. Woolnough, vice chair of PDF's People with Parkinson's Advisory Council, said. "That's the beauty of the PD ExpertBriefings: they allow anyone in the community to access relevant information regardless of where they live. Through PD ExpertBriefings, PDF ensures that people with Parkinson's have access to the information we need."
