New ACS publication gives hope, guidance to breast cancer patients

The American Cancer Society recently published Breast Cancer Clear & Simple, Second Edition: All Your Questions Answered to give newly diagnosed breast cancer patients more hope and information about their health.

ACS writers made this question-and-answer book in an engaging style. The goal is to help new patients have easy access to important information that will help them through their experience with breast cancer.

"When women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they have a lot to think about and a seemingly endless amount of decisions to make,” Dr. Richard Wender, chief cancer control officer at the American Cancer Society, said. “This book supports them by providing a comprehensive and easy-to-understand format to help them navigate through their diagnosis and treatment options, especially during those first days and months.”

The booklet will give patients and caregivers a good outline of what to do, expect and experience when they deal with breast cancer. It includes illustrations that explain how breast cancer begins, how the lymph system works, the different kinds of breast reconstruction options, details about breast anatomy, and more.

"This book is an important and innovative tool to support patients with a breast cancer diagnosis to help them make the treatment choices that are right for them," American Cancer Society Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. J. Leonard Lichtenfeld said.
