ADA recognizes new health advocates in U.S. organizations, companies

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recently released the names of 31 new companies that are included as Health Champions in the ADA’s Wellness Lives Here program.

Now, there are exactly 191 organizations and companies throughout 455 different locations in the U.S.

Health Champions are organizations or companies that have wellness programs established within their workplaces. These leaders are dedicated to improving the health of their employees.

"For many Americans, the majority of our days are spent working sedentary jobs, so it's more important than ever for our workplaces to encourage healthful habits," Dr. Alicia McAuliffe-Fogarty, vice president of lifestyle management for the ADA, said. "Our Wellness Lives Here initiative is designed to provide employers across the country with a roadmap for promoting heathy habits, and we are pleased to see so many employers working to earn a Health Champion designation."

The goal of the initiative is to collaborate with workplaces to encourage healthy habits and wellness for employees and communities. The healthy practices should extend beyond the workplace to people’s daily lives in their communities.

"We welcome the new Health Champions and applaud them for taking steps to help their teams adopt healthy habits," Dan Fishbein, president of Sun Life Financial U.S., said. "Supporting programs like Wellness Lives Here and encouraging other companies to embrace health and wellness in the workplace is a natural fit for our employee benefits business and our commitment to the prevention of diabetes and its related complications."
