Representatives from the Parkinson’s Action Network are honoring Parkinson’s Awareness Month with a variety of activities that promote community involvement and encouragement.
Communities can only raise awareness of Parkinson’s by encouraging people to become more involved. It is important for people to learn why teamwork is crucial for treating and curing Parkinson’s.
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), who serves as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Parkinson’s Disease, has reported that she will introduce a legislation to make April the national Parkinson’s Awareness Month.
Additionally, many other Parkinson’s awareness advocates have been successful ambassadors in their cities and states. They have successfully worked with leaders to create their own Parkinson’s Awareness Month, announced locally in their respective regions.
The most significant activities to encourage Parkinson’s awareness include the Red Button Campaign, a campaign that will take place on social media. Donators can send funds this month and receive a Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Kit. This includes five Red Button Pins, an APDA PD Handbook copy, five printed information cards and a new "Be Active & Beyond" book.
The Davis Phinney Foundation is also hosting the Victory Summit in Vancouver to inspire people to enhance their quality of life. In addition, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, the National Parkinson Foundation and the Parkinson Alliance have their own activities to contribute to the schedule.
