Health Leadership Council panel addresses Capitol Hill lawmakers

Members of the Health Leadership Council (HLC) were on hand for a briefing earlier this week on Capitol Hill, during which they discussed several matters related to health care in the private sector.

One of the principal issues covered was the coordination of care. Coordination of care is one of many issues included in “Viable Solutions: Six Steps to Transform Healthcare Now,” the HLC’s new compilation of health care reform proposals. Leading the panel was HLC President Mary Grealy.

Panel members addressing lawmakers include John Perticone, vice president of a nursing facility, who spoke about palliative screenings, pre-arranging primary care physician follow-up appointments and home health team coordination; Andy Friedell, Maxim Healthcare Services vice president of government affairs, who addressed strategies for moving patients from a hospital setting to home health care; Maxim Co-Vice Chairman William Queale, who spoke on the value of community health workers in a patient’s recovery; Marilyn Staniland, Novo Nordisk’s executive director of Field Medical Affairs West, who addressed co-morbidities and the importance of medication adherence; and David Key, Select Medical Corp. senior vice president of operations, who discussed patient engagement.
