The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) announced earlier this week that it has released two educational programs geared toward antimicrobial stewardship in the format of a virtual poster.
The new content revolves around the experiences of organizations that took part in and completed the ASHP’s Mentored Quality Improvement Impact Program: Accelerating Antimicrobial Stewardship Activities. Federal agencies have recently made antimicrobial stewardships a health care priority in the U.S., in addition to individual hospitals that have remained focused on antibiotic resistance.
As part of the activities announced by the ASHP, participants from six different health care organizations will highlight the outcomes of their efforts to improve quality in antimicrobial stewardships. William Zellmer, former ASHP executive vice president, will then discuss the virtual posters with the team members who created them.
The sites for the new ASHP programs will include St. Francis Hospital in Washington; Straub Clinic & Hospital in Hawaii; TIRR Memorial Hermann in Texas; Froedtert Hospital in Wisconsin; Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabama; St. Mary Medical Center in Pennsylvania; and St. Mary Medical Center in Pennsylvania for subjects including laboratory procedures, effective therapy, C. difficile infections, asymptomatic bacteriuria in the emergency department and assessing pneumonia risk.
