New campaign attempts to stem opioid abuse in Massachusetts

Opioid abuse is rampant in the United States.

Statistics show that in the state of Massachusetts alone, opioid overdoses cause four deaths per day, making opioid abuse one of the deadliest and hardest public health issues to remedy.

In an effort to combat opioid abuse and stop the tragedies associated with it, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) CEO Stephen Ubl and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker -- along with William Brooks, chief of police for Norwood, Massachusetts, and president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association -- have announced the launch of MyOldMeds Massachusetts.

This campaign is designed to bring awareness to the problem of opioid abuse as well as to promote the safe use of prescription drugs and how to store them, and to provide ways to dispose of them safely.
