One World Trade Center to participate in Light It Up Blue autism awareness event

World Autism Awareness Day will be celebrated on April 2 of this year.

On that day each year, it has become customary for those who support autism awareness and research to turn on a blue light as an outward symbol -- an initiative the Autism Speaks organization has dubbed "Light It Up Blue."

This year, for the second time, One World Trade Center in New York City will be among the thousands of homes, buildings and businesses across the nation to participate in Light It Up Blue.

One World Trade Center is located in lower Manhattan on the very spot the World Trade Center's Twin Towers stood prior to the terrorist attacks that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.

Autism Speaks holds its headquarters in New York, as well.
