Mother Cabrini Health Foundation gives $20 million to assist 'those in need during these extraordinarily difficult times'

More than two dozen organizations in New York communities impacted by COVID-19 will share $20 million from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation in its third round of Coronavirus Emergency Support Grants, reported Cision PR Newswire.

This funding is intended to support organizations that are working to help New Yorkers address health care and health-related needs that arise as a direct result of COVID-19.

"For many vulnerable New Yorkers, the pandemic's impact will be experienced for years to come. We honor Mother Cabrini's legacy by directly assisting those in need during these extraordinarily difficult times. We are concentrating our efforts on relief for frontline workers, financial support for underserved communities and equitable vaccine distribution across the state," Monsignor Gregory Mustaciuolo, CEO of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, told Cision PR Newswire.

Initiatives that this funding will help to support include activities to assist vulnerable populations and help mitigate the impact of the pandemic. This includes support for COVID-19 vaccine rollout, including grants to Catholic Charities in Albany and to Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers to reach out to low-income communities who may be expressing vaccine hesitancy.

The funds will also go toward purchasing personal protective equipment for health care and social service workers, including N95 and surgical masks for frontline medical workers.

Funding will support emergency food and financial assistance to individuals and families in need, including purchasing approximately 120,000 pounds of food for the continuation of the emergency food distribution program, as well as supporting a mobile food pantry serving Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrant communities, along with the general public, in Brooklyn.

Last year, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation -- a private, nonprofit organization -- awarded nearly $165 million to more than 650 health care and health-related programs that address what the organization calls the "social determinants of health" and a wide range of health needs across the state of New York.
