Jefferson Health CEO named to 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare list

Dr. Stephen K. Klasko, president and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, has been named to Modern Healthcare's 2017 list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare, the university reported.

“When the board was searching for a new president and CEO to lead Jefferson, it was clear that Steve had the energy, entrepreneurial spirit and optimism necessary to succeed in today’s healthcare and education environment,” Stephen P. Crane, chair of the board of trustees at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, said in a news release. “In a short time, he has led Jefferson through unprecedented growth and transformation which I credit to his exceptional business acumen and ability to connect with other visionary leaders. For these reasons, it’s no surprise that Modern Healthcare sees him as one of the top 100 influencers in healthcare. ”

As the head of Jefferson Health, Klasko leads 10 hospitals, 35 outpatient and urgent-care locations, and several Philadelphia physician practices. Klasko is making many changes to the organization, such as incorporating innovation and philanthropy into its mission, ensuring that care is available to more patients through telehealth and regional expansion, and upgrading how medical students are trained, the release said.

According to the publication's website, its annual list of health care professionals includes those who are "deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact."

Klasco wrote the book, “We Can Fix Healthcare in America: The Future Is Now,” in 2016. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Healthcare Transformation journal.
