Astellas names new executive director of international business

Astellas recently announced that it has chosen Rodrigo Fernandez as its new executive director of international business, where Fernandez will lead the company's business operations across Latin America, excluding Brazil.

Fernandez will be based at the company’s Northbrook headquarters for the Americas. His direct supervisor will be Percival Barretto-Ko, senior vice president of the company’s international operations.

"With a population of more than 600 million people facing numerous unmet clinical needs, Latin America is a critical area for Astellas," Barretto-Ko said. "Rodrigo's deep experience in this region, approach to collaboration and impressive track record in commercial operations will serve Astellas well as we seek to turn innovative science into value for patients."

Fernandez brings over 20 years of worldwide pharmaceutical experience to the business. His new responsibilities include over 20 countries located in Latin America. He will lead all of the business operations, such as resource management, distribution, commercial excellence, licensing opportunities and creating new affiliates.

Before joining Astellas, Fernandez worked for AstraZeneca as the country president of Central America, Ecuador, the Caribbean, Peru and a wide network of distributors. He also worked as the country manager and marketing company president for the West Balkans and Slovenia. His duties included leading the worldwide and regional commercial operations for several different therapeutic divisions.
