Health care representatives discuss national health policy at Capitol Hill

A Capitol Hill briefing on national health policy recommendations took place at noon today, Feb. 17.

Representatives from all areas of health care gathered to speak about an agreement reached with patient advocacy organizations, one that outlined six recommendations to improve health care in the U.S.

The recommendations were born from the Healthcare Leadership Council’s National Dialogue for Healthcare Innovation initiative. The initiative recently brought health care providers, insurers, drug companies, patient groups and other health industry sectors together, with a goal of developing a blueprint for government officials and industry leaders to follow that will help lead to patient-centered, high-quality health care in the U.S.

The initiative was the result of last March's national summit of health care leaders.

A slate of speakers appeared. The list included Susan DeVore, president and CEO of Premier Inc. and chairman of the Healthcare Leadership Council; Andrew Baskin, national medical director for quality performance for Aetna; Christi Shaw, head of U.S. general medicines and president of Novartis Pharmaceutical Corp.; Phyllis Greenberger, president and CEO of the Society for Women’s Health Research; and Mary Grealy, president of the Healthcare Leadership Council.
