ABC Global Alliance aims to improve lives of patients with advanced breast cancer

The ABC Global Alliance's chair said the group is working toward improving the lives of those living with advanced breast cancer(ABC).

Fatima Cardoso, the alliance's chair, wrote a guest blog posted on Eli Lilly and Company's lillypad.eu website promoting the European School of Oncology (ESO), which “was set up as a multistakeholder platform for all those interested in collaborating on common projects relating to ABC around the world.”

The alliance is made up of groups and organizations that help support and develop awareness of those with ABC. The lobbying efforts of the alliance included a recent brainstorm meeting in Vienna, Cardoso wrote.

“The meeting was attended by representatives from breast cancer patient advocacy organizations worldwide who were all very supportive and enthusiastic about the potential for the ABC Global Alliance to help ABC patients moving forward,” Cardoso wrote.

One of the outcomes of the alliance gathering has been a call-to-action that lists 10 goals for the organization. These goals include fixing gaps in patient care, societal support and scientific investment for patients with advanced breast cancer. Other goals focus on improving multidisciplinary care, public education of ABC and epidemiology as well as data for ABC.
