AAFP updates website to improve user experience

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has updated its Family Doctor website to better serve the millions of people who visit each month looking for general medical information and recommendations.

Visitors can now access hundreds of family physician-approved articles on topics for patients, families and communities to research optimal holistic health via its new navigational system for topics including Diseases and Conditions, Prevention and Wellness, Family Health and Your Health Resources. The website now also includes a newsfeed featuring the latest health news.

"Familydoctor.org is a great tool to help family physicians engage with their patients, offering a variety of resources that also help patients prepare for their doctor visits," Shannon Scott, AAFP senior vice president for Marketing, Communications and Membership, said.

When the website was redesigned, it focused on feedback from members, the usage patterns of visitors, and studies in health care trends. The site now highlights the conditions most family physicians see in their practices and those conditions that have the greatest impact on the population through information that can be accessed in both English and Spanish. The site is now fully functional on mobile devices for patients on the go who need immediate and easy answers to questions.

"We are excited about the enhancements to this valuable patient and physician resource and welcome any input from our members on content that would be valuable to add to the site," Scott said.
