Houston hospital highlights breast health awareness

Tints of pink pervaded several events for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, including fundraising, a free women's health event called Paint the Night Pink and even pink lighting illuminating the building’s exterior last month in Texas.

In recognition of the nation’s month-long breast cancer awareness program, the facility’s Pink Lighting Ceremony included commemoration of those affected by the disease.

Paint the Night Pink featured a strolling dinner, music, a photo booth and giveaways — including mini makeovers and massages — as well as the opportunity to tour the breast care center, engage with practitioners and make exam appointments.

Challenge Soccer Club, with multiple locations across the Lone Star State, donated $5,000 to the hospital’s cancer program to directly support its “Starting Your Journey” program for new patients, making a significant contribution towards the hospital’s goal of $10,000.

Houston Methodist Regional Breast Program Director Dr. Loren Rourke stressed the continued importance of performing monthly self-breast exams, noting that many women seek treatment when they self-discover anomalies.

"At Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, there is a comprehensive breast care team, ready to handle any concerns patients may have about their breast health, whether it be a phone call or visit, we're here to support you throughout your journey," Rourke said.

Recognized by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the breast care center offers a comfortable and nurturing environment.
