Parkinson's group promotes online seminar, resources for National Family Caregivers Month

Responding to requests for administrative help with Parkinson’s patients, the Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) will sponsor an attorney-led webinar at 1 p.m. (EST) Tuesday, Nov. 8, for families, friends and care givers.

Found at http://event.netbriefings.com/event/pdeb/Live/tips/register.html, the one-hour annual event with Martin Shenkman -- of the New York City area Shenkman Law -- will focus on legal, financial and investment topics, including tax planning, for caretakers of Parkinson’s patients as part of the Parkinson's Disease Foundation’s (PDF) efforts to inform the public during November, National Family Caregivers Month.

The number of individuals living with Parkinson’s is expected to double by 2030, with a corresponding increase in stress for primary caregivers. A recent PDF survey revealed that care partners named stress management as a top priority, often related to medical, insurance and legal matters.

"The lives of Parkinson's care partners are forever changed by this disease," Leslie Peters, an advisory member of the PDF and care partner to both her late mother-in-law and husband. "Oftentimes, care partners are so focused on supporting our loved ones that our own needs go unaddressed. PDF is here to make sure that doesn't happen. I urge my fellow care partners to turn to PDF for information, support and resources to help ease the journey."

PDF also encourages all care partners and loved ones of individuals with the disease to take advantage of its ongoing, free online educational material to locate resources by visiting www.pdf.org/caregivers_month. Family members, friends and helpers will find information about coping skills, cognitive issues and more.
