LLS launches Random Acts of Light to inspire cancer patients

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) recently launched Random Acts of Light, which is a new initiative that is designed to bring hope to cancer patients through its unique, powerful fundraising campaign: "Light the Night."

This fall, various celebrities will surprise blood cancer patients by meeting with them. These Random Acts of Light are meant to encourage the cancer patients by bringing hope into their challenging situations. This campaign will also raise awareness about how important it is for scientists to develop new cures and treatments for blood cancer patients.

The 2016 Light the Night fundraising campaign season began with a Random Act of Light when Yankees heroes Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Tino Martinez, Jim Leyritz, Dwight Gooden and Cecil Fielder surprised Quinton Ward. A cancer survivor, Ward is just 11 years old. When he was 7, he was diagnosed with stage-three lymphoblastic lymphoma.

"When you or someone you love hear the words, 'you have cancer,' it's a very dark moment," Dr. Louis DeGennaro, LLS president and CEO, said. "Our iconic 'Light the Night' campaign is the perfect platform for Random Acts of Light, as it creates moments of light and hope for those dealing with cancer, and reinforces the urgent need to raise more funds to fight cancer."
