Breast Cancer Research Foundation pledges $57 million for cancer research

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) recently made a $57 million commitment to cancer research for 2016-2017.

The funds include grants awarded to more than 250 scientists at top academic and medical facilities across 14 countries. BCRF supports research across the entire life of cancer, including how it starts. It works to develop new treatments to better the quality of life for those with the disease and to help prevent and end cancer once and for all.

“As the largest private funder of breast cancer research this year, we are raising funds and strategically placing them in the hands of leading scientists around the world,” Myra Biblowit, president and CEO of BCRF, said. “We unite around research because we know it is the only path to a future without breast cancer. While we've made real progress over the last twenty years, breast cancer is still the most common cancer in women worldwide. Research is progressing rapidly and we are urgently harnessing new and innovative projects while fostering global collaboration to save lives.”

BCRF funds research in major impact areas of study in 2016-2017 to include metastatic breast cancer research, new treatments, inherited susceptibility and tumor genomics, early diagnosis and prevention, health disparities and breast cancer as a growing global threat.
