AHRQ publishes updated state health care quality rankings

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recently published the latest rankings showing the quality of health care in specific states.

Now, local residents can see how their state measures up in terms of the quality of health care it provides. This makes it easier for people to make wise decisions concerning their health and wellness in their home states.

The AHRQ’s new, updated, interactive tool is available at nhqrnet.ahrq.gov. It offers users the opportunity to see state-level data concerning how all of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, stand in health care quality. States are measured based on over 250 snapshots demonstrating access to, and quality of, health care.

All of the snapshots come from the AHRQ's "2015 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report." Each snapshot shows how the state performs within a specific subject: insurance status, type of care, access to care, setting of care, health status of priority populations, National Quality Strategy priorities and prevalence of conditions and diseases.

Furthermore, the new tool is easy to use: visitors can scroll over any of the states -- or type in the name of a state -- to see information about that specific area.
