Leukemia and Lymphoma Society launches Blood Cancer Awareness Month

Leaders with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) recently started off Blood Cancer Awareness Month, after investing over $1 billion in research from donations given to last year’s fundraising campaigns.

The campaigns -- which feature Man and Woman of the Year, Light the Night, Team in Training, Leukemia Cup Regatta and Student Series -- include over 13 million people in raising funds for LLS. Thanks to these fundraising campaigns, LLS is able to invest significant amounts of money in making progress toward finding lifesaving treatments and cures for patients who have blood cancer.

For this month, LLS has reminded the public that even though progress has been made, there is still much to be done to save countless lives around the world. This is important, as over 1.2 million people within the U.S. have blood cancer or are in remission.

“LLS offers a variety of ways to participate,” Dr. Louis DeGennaro, LLS president and CEO, said. “Whether you turn training into treatment with Team in Training, raise your lantern in one of our almost 200 Light the Night Walks across the country, or join the millions of students in more than 25,000 schools across the country donating change in our Student Series campaign, everyone can make a difference and help LLS change the landscape of cancer.”
