Healthcare Leadership Council releases statement on Bromberg’s death

Mary Grealy, president of the Healthcare Leadership Council, recently released a statement about the passing of Mike Bromberg, who was a health care policy leader in the U.S.

“It is with great sadness that we note the passing this weekend of Mike Bromberg, a leader in shaping health policy in the United States for more than four decades and whose work improved the quality and accessibility of health care for millions of Americans,” she said.

Bromberg is largely credited for making the Healthcare Leadership Council what it is today.

“Mike will be best known as the executive director of the Federation of American Hospitals for 25 years and as founder and chairman of the influential Capitol Health Group consulting firm,” Grealy said. “An important part of Mike’s legacy, as well, is his conceptualization in the 1980s of the Healthcare Leadership Council, a convening of leading chief executives from all sectors of American health care to bring a cohesive, comprehensive perspective to the most important issues facing patients and the health system. HLC’s success in addressing these issues is due in no small part to Mike’s vision.”

The council will remember Bromberg as a leader of his time, helping mold health care into the system it is today.

“Mike Bromberg will be recognized as a pioneer in the development of modern health care policy, envisioning and advocating improvements in the delivery and financing of care,” Grealy said. “His imprint on our health care system will resonate for years to come. His creation of the Health Coverage Foundation, a charitable foundation to fund private health insurance coverage for low-income urban families, demonstrated his personal commitment to better health care for all.”

Bromberg is survived by his wife, Marlys, and his family.
