American Health Council chooses new nursing board member

The American Health Council recently announced that it has chosen Virginia Lipke, an international infection control practitioner at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as its new nursing board member.

In her new position, Lipke will be able to use her expertise and knowledge of Tuberculosis/HIV nursing and infection control.

Lipke first become interested in a health care career when she was in high school and helped an oral polio immunization campaign. She earned her Master in Healthcare Administration degree and used her education and talents to work for the CDC.

The current Division of Global HIV and TB (DGHT) offers technical assistance to hosting ministries of health, governments and international as well as local partners as they apply integrated TB and HIV preventive and clinical care. The goal is to improve epidemiologic informatics, science and research support; this will help to create a sustainable public health system in nations where resources are severely limited.

Lipke’s skills will be used to help patients and health care workers improve their health. With more than 20 years of experience, she will be able to help them apply safer policies and practices to reduce TB risk factors, specifically in hospitals and outpatient settings.
