Amgen names new executive VP of operations

Amgen recently announced that Esteban Santos has been chosen as the company’s new executive vice president of operations, beginning on July 25 of this year.

Santos will succeed Madhavan Balachandran, who is retiring, in directly reporting to Robert Bradway, the chairman and CEO of the company. His new duties include process development, manufacturing, engineering, quality and worldwide supply chain.

Previously, Santos was the senior vice president of manufacturing. Since 2013, he has been responsible for global product supply. In 2007, he first started working at Amgen, quickly advancing into several leadership positions: vice president of engineering, vice president of manufacturing, vice president of drug product and vice president of site operations.

Santos earned his bachelor's in electrical engineering while at the University of Puerto Rico. He attended the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for his master's degree in management.

"Esteban is a talented leader with a proven track record,” Bradway said. “I'm confident that Esteban and our operations team will maintain our track record of industry-leading performance in serving 'every patient, every time' as we expand globally, launch new products and introduce our next-generation of bio-manufacturing technologies."

Before Santos worked with Amgen, he was a site general manager for the Johnson & Johnson Cordis operation in Puerto Rico and a manager with General Electric as well as transportation companies in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico.
