American Cancer Society, Rugged Maniac partner in fight against cancer

The American Cancer Society recently partnered with Rugged Maniac, one of North America’s biggest obstacle race courses, to raise funds and awareness for the society's fight against cancer.

This partnership is the latest addition to the current fundraising events that the society hosts each year, including Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and Relay For Life.

Rugged Maniac features a five-kilometer race course with 25 obstacles: fire jumps, trampolines, underground tunnels and towers of shipping containers. After the race, the event boasts music, adult bounce houses and mechanical bulls, as well as beverage, food and exhibition booths.

“The American Cancer Society is excited to collaborate with Rugged Maniac to increase cancer awareness and keep cancer from being an obstacle for many touched by it,” Sharon Byers, chief development officer for the American Cancer Society, said. “Today, the risk of death from cancer is 23 percent lower than it was just two decades ago. It’s going to take teamwork to eliminate cancer as a major health problem, and we look forward to working together with Rugged Maniac to advance the mission of the society and spread awareness about cancer prevention and early detection to save more lives faster.”

The race is held in 28 different cities across the U.S. and Canada each year.
