CSL Behring honors 2016 HAE Day with events

Leaders in the worldwide HAE community recently gathered at the 2016 CSL Behring event on May 16 to recognize the fifth annual HAE Day initiative from HAEi, a worldwide patient organization dedicated to C1-inhibitor deficiency.

HAE, a rare and life-threatening disease, is caused by a non-functioning, inadequate C-1 inhibitor blood protein. This causes swelling, or edema, in the hands, face, feet, abdomen and airways of the patient.

The event is made possible through collaboration with the organization’s national members, like the U.S. Hereditary Angioedema Association (HAEA). HAE Day, a worldwide awareness event, supports improvements for HAE (hereditary angioedema) patients, including more accurate diagnosis methods and better care.

The event’s activities to boost awareness were varied: worldwide participation in Send a Smile; local awareness events at offices and plants around the world; events at CSL Plasma collection centers; and the virtual Global HAE Walk; in addition to other social media events.

In addition, from May 19 to 22, the 2016 HAE Global Conference was held in Madrid, Spain. It was made possible through CSL Behring and other supporters.

Seven events are scheduled for the rest of the year, each designed to continue raising awareness for HAE and patients. By partnering with the German HAE patient association, organization members were able to launch international videos to raise awareness about HAE, diagnoses and treatments.
