Astellas introduces sustainable community initiative

Astellas recently launched its strategic initiative for building sustainable communities, called the new Social Responsibility platform of Living SMART, in addition to its Americas Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report Card 2015.

The initiatives are designed to give communities improved access to the resources they need to confidently grow into the future. As a pharmaceutical company, Astellas is focused on improving health for people living across the globe. These initiatives are designed to help the company accomplish this goal.

"Our commitment to the community is just as important as the medicines we manufacture," James Robinson, president of Astellas Americas, said. "Through Astellas' community-focused work, we are acting on our corporate mission of changing tomorrow by creating sustainable social and economic value in the community."

In the Americas CSR Report Card, the first that Astellas has ever released, the company outlines its volunteer and philanthropic efforts based in the U.S., Canada and Brazil.

The Report Card serves to measure the positive effect of the company around the world. These effects include improving people’s access to science and math education, health care, employee volunteerism and environmental commitments.

According to the Report Card data, employees with Astellas volunteered more than 10,200 hours. They spent most of this time at community-based organizations, where they supported over 6,200 patients -- as well as 2,600 veterans.
