New Amgen reports form educational resource for cancer patients

Breakaway from Cancer, a new public service announcement from Amgen, is designed to raise awareness of how important it is to have educational support services while battling cancer.

The ambassador for the initiative, Patrick Dempsey, is the spokesperson for encouraging the public to become a team for people fighting cancer. The program is also receiving support from the Cancer Support Community, Prevent Cancer Foundation, National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and Patient Advocate Foundation.

Together, the partnered organizations hope to provide a variety of support services that people need when battling cancer. These services will be complementary to the health care professionals working with the patient.

"Amgen's mission is to serve patients, and we are proud to recognize individuals who make a positive difference in the fight against cancer," Raymond Jordan, senior vice president of corporate affairs at Amgen, said. "Similar to the sport of cycling, where it takes a team to achieve success, one person alone cannot beat cancer. Amgen is proud to be a part of the team to help empower patients with education, resources and hope through Breakaway from Cancer."

Experts estimate that approximately 1.7 million Americans will receive cancer diagnoses this year alone. With the ongoing problem of cancer rates, it is crucial for researchers to develop cures and create initiatives that will help patients.
