Celebrities assist high blood pressure awareness campaign

Both the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Ad Council have enlisted star power in their efforts to increase awareness about the hazards and risks associated with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall and Anthony Anderson -- all of whom have roles in the upcoming film “Barbershop: The Next Cut” -- have signed on to appear in public service announcements (PSAs) to remind patients to get regular blood pressure checks and how to control hypertension.

The PSAs will be posted on outdoor advertising and will also appear in digital, radio and television formats. They are expected to begin appearing in April.

“Millions of at-risk Americans can learn about the serious and often fatal consequences of hypertension through education,” AHA President Mark Creager said.

The PSAs will also give viewers and listeners information on how to join a mobile-based blood pressure management program.
