Princess Anne commemorates important day with visit to medical museum

To commemorate the royal appearance of King George V at the East Leeds Military Hospital one century ago, Princess Anne made her own appearance at the Thackray Medical Museum in London.

The museum sits in the place where the hospital once was.

While visiting the museum, the princess saw various medical innovations, including the Attune Knee System, which works to facilitate knee movement in activities that may be difficult, such as walking up stairs or standing up. She was interested in the system and the workings of it, commenting on the advances that have taken place in the years since the king's visit.

The princess also had the opportunity to see the exhibit "Recover? Flanders to Afghanistan," which exemplifies even more of the advances that have happened through history, both in the areas of surgery and medical products.

Mike Barker, vice president of research and development for DePuy Synthesis Joint Reconstruction, Mitek Sports Medicine and Power Tools, Johnson & Johnson, was pleased to take part in this event and inspired about the future of the improvements that are yet to come.

"The day reminded me of the importance of taking the time to reflect on achievements of the past," he said in a recent blog post.
